In-the-Ear Hearing Aids
In-the-Ear (ITE)
In-the-ear hearing aids are custom fit to the shape of the inside of your ear. Full shell ITE hearing aids fill most of the visible portion of the inside of your ear. These hearing aids have no external wires or tubes. The size allows for additional controls and features such as a volume control and program button. This is recommended for a mild to severe hearing loss.
In-the-Canal (ITC)
In-the-canal hearing aids are custom fit hearing aids that fit in the lower portion of the outer ear bowl. They are less visible than the ITE hearing aid. Because they are smaller in size, you may be limited on the additional controls. This hearing aid is recommended for a mild to moderate hearing loss.
Completely-in-the-Canal (CIC)
The CIC is the smallest custom fit hearing aid. This hearing aid fits deeply into the ear canal and is the least visible of the custom fit hearing aids. Because of the small size, this hearing aid uses a smaller battery resulting in a shorter battery life. This hearing aid is also more difficult to manipulate for those who have trouble with dexterity. Lastly, this style of hearing aid tends to need more repairs because of the exposure to wax in the ear canal. This is recommended for a mild to moderate hearing loss.
CROS/BiCROS
The CROS/BiCROS hearing aid is recommended when an individual has normal or aidable hearing loss in one ear and little to no hearing remaining in the other ear. A hearing aid is worn in the better ear to correct for the hearing loss in that ear.
An additional microphone is worn on the poorer ear. This microphone picks up the sound on the poorer side and transmits the sound to the hearing aid worn on the better ear.
